Word 2010 Protected View a problem

When opening a word doc or excel file using Office 2010 on either XP or Windows 7 we get a yellow bar across the top ("protected view") which you need to click on this bar to edit the file. We are trying to eliminate this from coming up but have had no luck. We have tried going into the Trust Center and setting off the options as suggested by Microsoft but then the files come up as read-only, which is somewhat worse than the Protected View. Has anyone come up with an effective way toi allow these files to open as before? (The CEO of our company doesn't like the Protected View bar coming up - that's our motivation.)

Have a look at this webpage for instructions on disabling this feature.

Thanks. We have tried to modify these attributes and while it turns off the Protected View bar the document then comes up as read-only, which is probably more annoying than the protected view bar.
