    Unknown Icon In System Tray

My OS is Win 7 Pro 64 bit with SP1 and all updates installed.

I have just added Quick Launch to the taskbar, and now find there is an unknown blue icon with the letter i on it in the system tray. Hovering on the icon shows nothing and clicking it does nothing. Does anyone have any idea what this could be, and how to get rid of it?

    Help would be appreciated.

    Thanks and regards,Roy

Roy, can you supply a screen shot of the icon?

Hello Fred, thanks but that is not the icon I was referring to.

Ted, I have attached a screenshot showing the icon and would appreciate further advice.

    Thanks and regards, Roy

To add a quick launch toolbar to the taskbar you must have browsed to a folder.

Can you browse to that folder again in Windows Explorer and see if that icon exists there as a shortcut whose properties you can examine?

    Hello Ted & Bruce,

Ted, as I said in post #6, right clicking the item did nothing.

Bruce, to add Quick Launch I followed instructions on a website whose name I have forgotten. Having said that, I decided to disable various services relating to Bluetooth devices. (Bluetooth services are on the new motherboard I recently had installed, and I don't need them). When I rebooted the icon was there and this time it displayed the message that "Bluetooth radios are not discoverable by others". The message and the mystery icon then disappeared, so problem solved.

    Best regards, Roy

That is the information icon. Left double click on it. The Quick Launch toolbar is not available in windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...Launch-toolbar

It looks to me your taskbar is not locked. Once locked, click this to customise it's display.

It also shows a description of each icon.

Almost all items in the System Tray come from entries in the Boot Startup list. Use your favorite startup analyzer (MSConfig, Autoruns, Whats in Startup, etc) and see if you see anything suspicious.

This one was solved at #9 (Bluetooth disabled).
