    "Safely Remove Hardware" Problem

My OS is Win 7 Pro with SP1 and all updates installed.

I have an external USB hard drive. The drive opens normally,I have no problem accessing the drive contents, and Device Manager reports no problem with the drive. However, when I click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the sytem tray nothing happens. This behaviour started recently, and I have no idea why.

Help resolving this would be appreciated.

    Thanks and regards, Roy

See in your bios if the drive is set as "removable" or "plug & Play" if it set as removable etc maybe it is not necessary to use the safely remove option.
Or check the drives properties to see if it is set as removable.

This is just a thought not necessarily correct but worth a look.

Hello Clive and thanks for your comments.

I went into the BIOS-I thought there might be something there regarding UPnP but there wasn’t. I looked at the various screens, but didn’t change anything. I pressed F10 and then the option to exit and reset, and when the system restarted the safely remove hardware option worked normally. I connected and disconnected the drive a few times, using the safely remove hardware option, and it worked every time.

    Problem solved,but I don't know how!

    Regards, Roy
