may need new graphics card, but which one?

I'm not as knowledgeable about video cards as I used to be. I may need to replace my XFX geforce 9600 card. There's an alphabet soup out there!!

What's a good mid-range GeForce card for PCI express x4 or x16? I'm currently playing Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 (when it comes out) and Heroes 6.

    TIA!!

Well, since you say I'll need something good for ME3, I may just think about that 2nd card. I was hoping for $100-150 but not holding my breath.

Anything good in the graphics card market usually doesn't start untill the 200 dollar range.
Save your money and do it right.

    infael,
Hello... One more piece of advice... "Google" any potential candidates before purchasing ... Some will have problems with various OS's and Hardware..Best to find this out before .... Regards Fred

could try a GTX 550 if moneys tight may be able to handle ME3

But as Just Plain Fred says read the reviews and Google for info to make sure it will work on your Mobo PSU and OS. As some as like what I suggested require an extra 6 / 8 pin power plug from PSU some need two.

    ordered card

I ordered the 2nd card, arriving tomorrow, before I saw the posts suggesting I google for hardware issues. Ah well. Here's to hoping the card works out of the box.

I really do hate not being able to buy peripherals locally. Best Buy is the only place since CompUSA closed their stores.

Purchasing over the internet through Newegg or Tirger Direct will give you far more choices than most any store.
(Provided that you are comfortable and secure enough to do so)
If you have to go to a store, I find Fry's have the better choice in all computer components. (US only)

Both will have warranties and an established RMA policy
