Removing all internet search items from my computer

How can I remove all internet seach items from my computer. I will be selling it soon and I would like it to be without any trace of me on it. I have been asked by buyer to leave some programs that I am no longer using. So, will doing a DoD erase of free space remove all traces of my internet searches?

Maybe others here will have a better way but I would re-install OS and give it to them that way.

Depending on the programs, there may be legal issues...If not then give them the original program disks.

As Bany says if you have the original disks, a reinstall of the OS and apps, followed by a defrag then a wipe of the free space is probably the best method.

If you use CCleaner and Privacy Mantra to clear all temporary folders and files, then defrag and wipe you should be fine, but if this is a stranger you are selling the PC to, the first option would be more secure I would think.

Absolutely, yes! Format & toss the OS in again. @ the very least, do a Recovery back to original factory state. Just get it back to virgin, clean slate before going to another/new owner. OS disc should stay w/ the machine, End User might need it, someday.

Another method maybe not quite as good but it does leave the installed programs in tact.

Uninstall any Tax and/or personal finance programs and make sure the data files get killed.
Create a new user with admin privleges.
Log on as that user.
Delete your original userid and take the data with it.
Use CCleaner to kill any left over temp stuff and also the Registry.
Use Erunt to compact the registry.
Defrag the disks with a defragger that moves everything to the front of the drive.
Run your free space wipe.

You should be good to go unless the new owner really really wants to get at your stuff and has plenty of money to get throw at the project.

Yes Rg, you can do it that way but what I have found that some programs put data in some strange places, maybe backs it up to a hidden folder or something similar...

I think it's easier to just clean install and get it over with and have peace of mind...
