My Outlook 2010 (Win 7 32 bitS ) is not starting because a System Error msg tells me that a MSVCR90.dll is missing.
How can I solve the problem, and what's the reason for the missing dll?
Any help will be much appreciated.

Flores

Hi Flores,
Have you tried an Office repair?
Regards
Rui
Hi Rui,
Long time, no see.
Yes, I did repair Office, but it did not work either.
Tomorrow I will remove/reinstall Office and see if this will do.
Will let you know.
Abraços,
Flores

You could try downloading and installing Visual C++ 2008 SP1 runtime.
Joe
Hello JoeP517,...You could try downloading and installing Visual C++ 2008 SP1 runtime.
The above link recommends that "If you have installed previous pre-release versions of Visual C++ 2008 SP1 such as Beta 1 or Community Technical Preview (CTP) builds, then you must uninstall these versions via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel before installing the final released version."
I do have several of them installed, and I'm afraid to remove them prior to installing the Visual C++ 2008 SP1 runtime, as recommended.
Don't know what to do.
Any additional help on this?
Joe, thanks for your help and patience.

You already have the C++ runtime installed. You could install SP1 too but I don't know if that will help.
Have you tried starting Outlook with addins disabled?
Joe
Hello Joe,
Outlook is not opening, therefore I don't know how to disable addins.
Do you think a system restore can fix this problem?

I think Joe wants you to start outlook in safe mode:
You can open any Office or Office family program in Office Safe Mode by pressing CTRL while you start the program or by using the /safe option when you start the program from the command line.
Jerry
Hi Joe and Rui,
In the meantime I did a system restore and this solved the problem for the missing dll.
Thanks to you all for helping me fix the problem.
Regards and abraços,
Flores
Glad it's solved.
Abraço.
Rui,Glad it's solved.
Yesterday I did a recent system restore, but it did not work.
Today, I tried an older one and voilá, it worked.

Hello Jerry,
Yes, I tried opening Outlook in safe mode, but it did not respond.
All I got was the System Error msg telling me that a MSVCR90.dll was missing.
Thanks for your help.

Well, I'm glad you got it to work via a system restore. It would be interesting to know what caused the problem in the first place. Can you think of anything you did between the system restore point that worked and the one that failed?

I was happy having fixed the problem.
In fact, I was not sure the second system restore would work.
Pure luck, but frustrated for not knowing what caused the problem.
