I'm running 2010 of both Word and Excel and this has been happening since I installed the programs on my new computer but it's finally getting unbearable.

Every time I add a link or update a link in my Word doc it closes the excel file that the link is to. That's not a problem if I'm not working in both at the same time, but usually I am. It appears to be opening the linked xls file, getting the data, and then closing it. So if I already have it open, it just gets the data, then closes the file. It doesn't close the excel program, just the file.

Can anyone tell me what settings I need to change in either program to get this to stop doing what it's doing?
