Apple TV vs WD TV Live vs ?

Am considering creating a Media Library to store and play movies from a network drive, currently use itunes for my music in MP3 format, and am thinking of getting an apple airport to connect my stereo to the computer but otherwise do not use apple products. comments and suggestions appreciated. thanks

Apple TV is good for what it does but I think its much more restricted as far as what file formats it can play and through what protocols it can play them through. It may have changed some since I checked it out but online accounts were limited only to Netflix(?) and the iTunes store and shows and movies from a shared drive had to be from a iTunes library and it didn't support dlna on network drives (has to have an iTunes server) and the file formats it can play are very few.

WD Live; pretty much supports anything from anywhere at anytime like a media player should.
