Unprotecting certain areas of a worksheet

How do you unprotect certain areas ( non contiguous ares) of a worksheet so those area can be written on? Also, Can you unprotect the titles and use the FILTER?

i want to protect and hide the fomulas in the worksheet located from column k thru column o and the columns a - j are downloaded data.

You con unprotect cells in the worksheet when the worksheet is unprotected. It is under Format-cells dialog, protection tab. By default all cells are "Locked" but not "Hidden". Neither has any affect until the worksheet is protected. When protected, any cell that is locked can not be edited and any cell that is hidden will not display in the formula bar. So to allow editing in cells, unlock the cells of interest. To prevent display of formulas check "hidden" for those cells. Then protect the worksheet.

You don't need to unprotect the titles to allow autofilter. To allow autofilter when protected, after selecting "Protect workbook" make sure that the "Use Autofilter" is checked.
