Is there a way to get rid of the new mail envelope in the tray? Not just hide it, but take it away?

Although perhaps being petty, that doesn't get rid of it, only hides it. But I guess that's better than before, so thanks.
Now a new problem cropped up: when I was looking for the icon, look [below] at all the crud that shows as being in the tray!

What trouble might these either be the result of or the potential cause of?

For the mail envelope, go to File | Options | Mail | Message Arrival. Clear the check box for "Show an envelope icon in the taskbar".

That is cleared on my choices Joe. Funny (?), but when I tried finding something on this in Google, and I found many problems -- both ways: the icon not able to be cleared AND for others not showing in the tray.
Too bad there isn't some type of [registry] hack for this.

This is a possible workaround.
Create a new folder in the Outlook tree and create a rule that moves all incoming email to the named folder.
I have multiple rules applied to my incoming email and the only time I see the email notification in the system tray is when something bypasses all the rules and ends up in the default inbox.
Now that's an interesting workaround! I don't see why not, since it all would end up in one place still, just "different."
I may try that.
Thanks,
Chuck

Browni, I went and looked over my rules. How do I account for maul that normally has a rule alrady that moves it? If I don't just move everything, then there will be mail that isn't "rule-accountable"; but if I do move it all, then what, do I re-set rules to somehow work out of the new folder after the initial move?

Ah, you are already using rules. No need to change the existing rules apart from checking they all have the "Stop processing more rules" option selected. (They should be set up that way anyway otherwise you can get confusing duplicates)
Then add a rule at the bottom of the list to move incoming mail to another folder. At this point all of your rules will have been processed so the only email which may be moved is email that didn't match one of your rules.
Ah...
I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Those five untitled icons running in your notification area don't look good or useful. I think you should try to identify the programs or kill them with right-click and exit if available.
Bruce
Truly!

See if Notification area icons reset helps.
Joe
Joe, cool! That did it!
Thanks,
