I think you are on the track.
I called the guys at the company asking for ideas. I had an old install-CD with XP & that is a special CD that needs the companys network & that the PC is registred there. This is not reg any longer. So I tried thta CD anyway. Nope I could not use ...
But I got another tip from the guys: get in to BIOS & change something about the hard-disk. To what I asked. To anything else that you could...
So I did & change it to something like ATA (or SATA?) Compability & saved the settings & restarted. Win 7 - Nope
Win XP 32 bit - Yes! At least now the formating is running (full format).
So maybe I'm upp & running again soon.
I'll let you know when I know...

    Well it worked finally!
I had to first install Wi XP to be able & check what OS (32/64-bit) this PC could handle.
    It was 32-bit only :-(
But now is Win 7 32 bit in the laptop & the Win updates are running like hell.
First it was only 6 uppdates.
Then it 114 of them & still no SP1 for Win 7 in sight.
Many thanks to all for all your suggestions.
    "we did it" ...

Hooray! Always glad to see a success story. Keep at the updates, but I think I would have run SP1 from a download or anyone's SP1 upgrade disk (32-bit only) to jumpstart the updates process. Either way, you will end up with 32-bit Win 7 with SP1 and all necessary updates.
