iexplore.exe shows up as running two instances in task manager

    Hello folks,
For whatever reason, IE8, which I've used very successfully for some time, started acting strange, not only slowing down, but mouse pointer becoming jumpy. I looked in task manager and have two instances of iexplore.exe running at same time. I can click either one and shut down process, but it closes IE down completely. I'm running Win7 64 and do have IE in both the Programs Folder for 64bit and also in the Programs Folder (86) for the 32 bit. I've tried starting each one out of the programs folders and still get two instances of it running.
Please tell me what's going on? Thanks so much in advance.

A minimum of two is normal while IE is open because IE8 separates tabs from the rest for crash recovery purposes: Windows Task Manager showing iexplore.exe running

At times closing the browser may help to clean it up to speed it up. You can also try to clean out TIF and cookies and such.
