    Hi Barbara,

    assuming Windows 7:

Click on the start menu, and type "volume"
Windows 7 search should display a matching result: Click on the link labeled "Show or hide volume (speaker) icon on the taskbar"
The Control Panel will open, and display the "Turn system icons on or off" screen.
The second system icon listed is "Volume".
Select the Volume's dropdown menu, and change its value to "On"
Click "OK" to confirm and close the Control Panel

    Kind regards,
    - Eelco

Thanks for trying for it doesn't work. Volume and its selection box is greyed out, and restore default icon behavior does not work either. All the other items work as advertised.
