    Insert rows & Nonblank cells (2001)

    <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

    Does anyone remember how to get around that pesky "can't shift nonblank cells" error when trying to insert a row and you DON'T have any nonblank cells at the bottom of the page?

    I used to know this stuff before my work made me start dealing with the network stuff... I hate network stuff... Much prefer the comfort and sense of achievement that programming provides..

    ANYWAY... thank you in advance for your help.

    If you have all your rows filled in one worksheet, Excel will not be able to add more rows. I think this is why you are getting the message. No more room.

    Now you may thing that the rows are empty, but that does not matter since Excel thinks they are.

    I guess you need to look at the MSKB article that talks about resetting the last cell in the range, search for Last Cell and you should come up with it.

    I agree with you, I would rather program than do anything else.

    Thanks for your response, Wassim. But if you notice in my message - I don't have a full worksheet - that's like 60K rows and I'm only up to like 145. Sooo.. I'll keep lookin'.

    I think it has something to do with Null vs. blank or something of that nature. I've gotten the error (and it is an error - not a proper program function) before and there is a fix/workaround - just lookin' to see if someone remembers what it is... I'll check on the Knowledge Base over at Microsquash too.

    Thanks again,
    Bill

    So what I ended up doing is copying the critical part of the sheet (the data) to a new sheet in the workbook and then just dealt with adjust ing the formulas to catch the new page (there's another thing Microsquash could change - the default ability to aim your formulas).

    Thanks for the input!
