Error Messages

I get a message that rundll has performed an illegal function at bootup. After that, when I try to load some programs the message reads that that program has performed an illegal function. In addition, neither the Scandisk nor the defrag work. They both just hang.

I don't use rundll in my startup because I often got errors too. Just hit Start-Run and type msconfig and hit enter. Go to the startup tab. Uncheck rundll. I have also unchecked the following, if present: findfast, loadwc, any references to realplayer or iomega zip drives, and others. If you want, you can list everything here and I can pretty much tell you what to remove/leave and/or at least what they are.

If you can't run scandisk or defrag from windows, it may be because one of these items is running in the background and interrupts the process. You can ctrl-alt-del and end task on everything except Explorer, and then run scandisk and defrag.
