Unhappy win8 guest in Oracle Virtual Box

I tried to follow Fred Langa's instructions (March 15) to install the Win8 preview in the VM. I followed the instructions completely, but after I have the VM setup, his instructions say "click the Win8 item in VirtualBox Manager to launch your newly created but empty VPC". Well, actually, it requires a double-click, but I never see the screen that he shows, the "First Run Wizard" and the program never even tries to install Win8.

Has anyone tried this and what am I missing?

Take a look at post #9 in the follow up comments to Fred's article; it might be what you need.

You could also burn the ISO's to DVD and then boot the virtual machine off the host optical drive and install from there.

Win8 CP running from VirualBox runs just fine. There is a slight performance hit, but not a tremendous one if you have decent hardware and plenty of RAM.

Thank you. I got it to work. I don't know where Fred got his screens, but it seems that no one else has seen those screens. The key to making this work is

The "black screen" message is resolved by going to setup/storage/ then click on the "Empty" icon under (in my case) IDE Controller. Then on the right, click on the little round disc. Then select "Choose a virtual CD/DVD disc file". Go to your Windows 8 down load. Now go back and start again
