Installing Updates when Software Restrictions in Effect

Years back to prevent unwanted programs from being installed on the network I created a group policy and applied to all of our desktops. Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Software Restriction Policies. Over time I've had to added rules to permit programs to run across the network. I has worked well for us except for when a desktop program needs an update. Namely Java, Flash and Acrobat. When they needs to be updated I have to remote into their desktop as a local administrator and do it for them. Needless to say, we always have many desktops behind in their updates. Is there a way that I can keep using software restrictions and create an exception for those three applications?

Have you reviewed Technet - Using software restriction policies?

Wouldn't a path rule allowing software in that path work?
