    Belarc Advisor Results

I Just ran it & some results have me concerned mainly because I don't understand computing & am new to Win7.

    1. Found 2 missing MS Security Hotfixes. One for Silverlight which I vaguely understand, dated 2/14/12 which was 4 days before I even bought this machine. The other one is for CAPICOM, dated 9/30/11.

    2. There are 2 items listed as: 'This is the manufacturer's factory installed product key rather than yours. You can chanhge it to yours here' : a highlighted MS site.

    3. Under users, 'local user' my name - today's date - (admin)
'local system accts' Administrator - 11/30/11 - (admin)

Are there any of the above that are concerning & need attention/change?

    Thank you

If no update show when you run Windows Update the don't worry about it.

I'd not worry about #2 as long as you have an OEM built machine that had Windows 7 on it when you bought it.

    #3 is normal.

    I agree with Joe.
If after running Windows updates and having never "hid" any updates, you should have everything you need.
Information about: CAPICOM No need to deal with this.
    2. There are 2 items listed as: 'This is the manufacturer's factory installed product key rather than yours. You can chanhge it to yours here' : a highlighted MS site.
That would probably mean going to the MS site and purchasing your own key, a total waste of money since you already have an OEM key that should be stickered somewhere on the computer. If not, get a program like Speccy or SIW and look for the product key in there.

SIW no longer provides os licensing information in the free version. Very disappointing imo.

Thanks Joe, I just bought an eMachine with Windows 7 installed in mid Feb. As the sole user, I had assumed that I was admin. but evidently I'm wrong (again), so any time that I'm instructed to "Run as admin.", I actually have to click on that button or whatever there is?

Thanks Clint, actually I think I did 'hide' the Silverlight one, not really knowing anything about it & I still don't. I just found a product key label on my tower. I do have Speccy & even in my sig. area , 'Thanks' to Ted.

The Silverlight download will be optional.

It's is a competitor, if you can call it that, to Adobe Flash.
Some sites like Netflix use it and very few others, but not many. It's probably on it's way out as far as MS is concerned.

I'm not sure, but I do not believe Speccy shows the keys. SIW does. So does Magical Jelly Beans Key Finder.

Thanks Clint, I was just about ready to go to 'updates' to do Silverlight, but might as well leave it hidden if I'm reading you right.

Thanks Ted, are there actually times when I'll need to produce the keys?

If yu ever have to reinstall Windows for any reason you will need to insert the key. If the tag is worn or removed an app will need to be used to find the key.
