Excel 2007, Print preview crash when mouse scroll wheel is turned

Excel 2007 crashes every time I move the scroll wheel on my Logitech mouse in the print preview screen.

I can create a brand new sheet, type just one character and switch to print preview. Then I rotate the scroll wheel and CRASH. I get the message "Microsoft Excel has stopped working".

    I don't have any add-ons running.
I have tried the control panel - repair Office 2007 option.
I have nothing in the XLstart folder.
I have tried different default printers.
I have tried starting Excel in safe mode, with the /s option ["C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\excel.exe" /s]
I have renamed the Excel.pip file.
I have updated the mouse driver.
I have switched to a Microsoft mouse.

Nothing I have tried has worked.
I have 4 GB RAM, Win 7 Pro (32 bit), 100 GB free hard drive
    Appreciate any suggestions.

Does the same problem occur if there is actual data on more than one page?

Yes the problem occurs regardless of the type or amount of data, it happens even if the entire contents of the sheet are just one character or if the worksheet contains multiple pages.

Have you tried using this particular mouse on another PC??
If the mouse works on another PC we can eliminate the mouse hardware.
..and then concentrate on what could cause Excel to behave like this
..when it works OK with the mouse wheel in print preview on our systems.

have you updated your Excel2007 with service packs???

The mouse works on other PC's but I dont have another PC with the exact same combination of Win 7 / Excel 2007 etc. As I mentioned in my original post, I have also tried replacing the logitec mouse on my system with a microsoft mouse and that did not help either. All service packsm, windows updates etc have been applied. Thanks.

The scroll button has a different function in Print-Preview mode depending on the Zoom setting (and whether there are multiple pages).
So, when you click the Zoom option in the top panel, you either see a full page on screen, or part of the page.
If you have a large print area, the scroll wheel will 'scroll' page-at-a-time in the zoom-out mode, whereas in the 'zoom-in' mode the wheel just moves the vertical scroll up-and-down the current page being viewed.
So, does it crash in both modes? Can you click on the Zoom option before it crashes??

Does the mouse work OK everywhere else in Excel? e.g. can you scroll in a VBA code module, scroll in a listbox, scroll up-and-down in a worksheet etc.?? Trying to work out if it is a dll issue.

Yes, the mouse seems to work everywhere else in Excel and in all other applications outside Excel.

Since this problem is present with multiple mice, my guess is that the problem is related to Office and specifically Excel.

The Excel 2007 you are using surely must be the same as the one I have.
And you have tried all the usual steps e.g. repair, safe mode etc.
I don't have any problems with using the wheel in print preview mode.
And we seem to have pretty much eliminated the mouse hardware.
And you have updated the mouse driver.

So I think it must be a conflict with some other device and/or other device driver.
In the old days devices used IRQ's to communicate (interrupt requests) and I seem to recall that IRQ12 was usually used for the mouse.
Things would go mysteriuosly haywire whenever a conflict arose with IRQs.
So perhaps you need to examine and run PC hardware diagnostics.

Did this issue happen just recently?
Is you mouse plugged into a multi-port USB hub?
Have you considered a system 'restore' to a previous date?

Although you are able to demonstrate and replicate the issue in Excel2007, I am pretty sure it is NOT an Excel 'bug' as we would all be screaming about it.

Mouse is not plugged into a hub.
This issue has been going on for maybe a month or more, so a system restore would not be prudent.

    Hi

I have exactly the same version of Excel2007, working for me.

    I'm still suggesting a device/software conflict somewhere.

I'm having the same problem. WinXP Pro SP3, Excel 2007 SP3, Microsoft Intellimouse USB Optical Mouse, not using USB hub, tried different default printers, tried different wheel function assignments (instant viewer, autoscroll). Happens every time. Started when I installed Excel 2007.

My workaround is to not use the mouse wheel, but just use page down and page up keys, or the toolbar buttons: next page, previous page. But it's hard to remember not to use the mouse - that's the way I've been using the program for decades.
