More on shrinking Windows' huge WinSxS folder

    By Fred Langa

Each version of Windows has its own best way of reducing the clutter.
I previously answered a reader's question about Win7's WinSxS. Here's what to do on other Windows versions.

The full text of this column is posted at windowssecrets.com/langalist-plus/more-on-shrinking-windows-huge-winsxs-folder/ (paid content, opens in a new window/tab).

Columnists typically cannot reply to comments here, but do incorporate the best tips into future columns.

In any case, the correct path is:
    C:\Windows\System32\DISM
The Web version of the file has now been corrected. Again, sorry!
The web page of the original article has been corrected incorrectly and now says C:\Windows\System\32DISM

In Win7 64 - get error 87 The online/clean-up/cleanup-image/spsuperseded option is unknown. It does run Deployment Image Servicing and Management Tool Ver 6.1.7600.16385

There should be a space before each of those three option switches (i.e., a space before each forward slash):

    C:\Windows\System32\DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /SpSuperseded

    (not C:\Windows\System32\DISM /online/Cleanup-Image/SpSuperseded)

It was correct in the email newsletter but was yet another epic fail for text formatting in the newsletter archive web page version.
