    Manually arranging Start Menu items

I uncheck the box "Sort all programs menu by name"
(Task Bar properties/Start menu/Customize/Sort all programs menu by name)

After unchecking I can arrange the folders & shortcuts in the Start Menu as I could in WinXP. After rebooting most of my arrangement has reverted.

I have tried this on 4 computers including a brand new clean install (from retail DVD) and all do the same thing!

    Anyone have luck with this?

I don't think there's an easy (or any?) solution unless you download and install Classic Start Menu from Classic Shell, which seems very popular.

The start menu in Windows 7 in my opinion is good the way it is. All that need be done with it is to clean it up and organize it a bit.
One can add folders for installed program groups in an attempt to clean things up a bit. One can and should also move operating
system apps back into their respective folders, like moving WMP back into the "accessories" folder.
