remote Windows XP PC, "request" its WSUS updates to install

After downloading updates to Windows XP PC from WSUS server, is there a way that the remote PC can "request" its updates to be installed? As opposed to setting a deadline in the WSUS server.

    What are the update settings?

Are they controlled by an IT department?

I control the WSUS server. I download the updates to the PC group, but do not set a deadline.

What we want to do is launch a script/request for the updates to install.

Do you want this to be user initiated or do you want to control it?

User initiated. I hope that's clear enough.

    Any ideas?

Doesn't the yellow shield show up in the notification area?

Can't the user just double click that and select install?

Currently the updates are installed manually, on hundreds of Windows XP machines. We now want to automate the process.

Can't you use one of the automatic update settings? See Update and Configure the Automatic Updates Client Computer.

I always set the updates to install automatically but not re-start if the user is logged on. Once you have tested the updates / checked with Windows Secrets, you want them installed ASAP.

    cheers, Paul
