Using the search facility on filenames alone?

I want to find all files that begin with "backup of" in a directory tree. But when I enter that (e.g. backup of*.docx), it also searches within the file for any reference to "backup" and "of" etc.

How can I stop Windows (in this case, Windows 7), from doing that?

    Cheers

    Alan

    Alan,
Hello... Ultra File Search is a free program that you can customize that i use in place of the Windows Search ... Does not build an index but runs on the "fly" You can set it up to search the way you want.... Its a Free Program UltraFileSearch Regards Fred

PS: not sure if it won't find the same ....but it's worth a shot

Thanks - I'll look into that. I was hoping for a Windows answer because I want to use the resultant list to drag the files to one new location. But maybe UFS will handle it.

Edit - No, that's no good. I can't select the files (it found 166 of them) and drag them to another folder.

    Search for system.filename:~<"backup of"

This was covered eight months ago in Woody's article Getting the most from Windows Search — Part 2

This and other keyword searches are also explained at Microsoft's Advanced tips for searching in Windows (7)

BTW, all the details from that Microsoft link are available in Windows 7's built-in Help and Support if you search for "search" and click Advanced tips for searching in Windows.

(Or Browse Help contents to All Help > Files, folders and libraries > Searching and Organizing > Searching and search options > Advanced tips for searching in Windows)
