Excel 2007: re-made pivot table doesn't show changes in underlying data

a colleague of mine has a problem with an Excel 2007 spreadsheet.

    - he made a new spreadsheet and pasted data from an Access database
    - he made a pivot table (on a new worksheet)
    - then he changed one of the underlying values (a text field)
    - he deleted the worksheet with the pivot table
    - he made the pivot table all over again (cause he didn't know about the Refresh command)

the new pivot table still shows the unchanged data.

when he Refreshes the pivot table, all is fine, including future re-made pivot tables.
the same happens on my PC.
another work around seems to be: pasting the data in a new spreadsheet.
however, we'd still like to know what is happening here.

i tried to replicate the problem in a new Excel file but i cannot.
perhaps the original file is somehow corrupted?

    any help would be appreciated.

    Hi

Right-click anywhere in the pivot table, and select PivotTable options from the menu.
In the PivotTable Options dialog box which is then displayed, there is a tab labelled Data.
The checbox "Save source data with file" is probably checked, which keeps a 'copy' of the data in a pivotcache.
Notice, there is also a checkbox which, if ticked, allows you to automatically 'refresh' the data when opening the file.

    thank you very much, zeddy!
i did have to save, close and re-open the file for your fix to work though.
