    Question Mozilla Maintainance Service: what does it do?

    Any ideas as to it's purpose apart from the obvious. ?

    Hi Roderunner
    What version of Firefox do you have as I do not have this program in my add/remove list. Sounds like it not really needed and possibly got installed as part of an add-on.

    My Firefox is version 12 also. Maybe I should have had this also but I don't
    My version was as an automatic update from Mozilla. maybe only get this on a clean install

    Found I do have the exe file for it, maybe not yet installed. (Program files (x86)\ maintenanceservice.exe)
    I also don't have the option in Retired Geeks link (Use a background service to install updates) to disable it.
    Also I have UAC set to off so maybe that why it not on my computer yet.

    It's Mozilla's way of reducing UAC prompt user annoyances. There are likely to be several more tricks in the pipeline related this once they've ironed out any bugs. Controlling parts of Windows prefetch for faster Firefox startup times is one.
