fresh install from a upgrade disk

How can I do a fresh install of Windows 7 from an upgrade disk?

    Here’s thesystem history:

-new in 2008 this Gateway desktop came with WindowsVista.
-the previous owner, installed Windows XP in a dualboot mode.
-that had issues and this owner had someone removeXP.
-they ran Vista for several years
-a few months ago I installed Win 7 as an upgrade.
-ever since it has been undependable with severedifficulty in finding and maintaining an and internet connection.
-it boots from cold just fine but when it locks upit won’t reboot
-it says “Starting Windows” but hardly evercompletes
-it does not matter if I use the START button andselect RESTART or press the power button and turn off the box.

I think the various installations of Windows haveso confused this system that I want to reformat the drive and do a fresh install of7. When I installed the upgrade to Win 7it was from a three pack of upgrades and I wish to reuse that key. Please suggest how I can fresh install forman upgrade disk. Of course, I am open toany and all suggestions if you know a way to clean out the system without aformat. Thank you!

The easiest way is to install windows 7 using the upgrade disk without activating it, then install it a second time using the upgrade option. It should then activate using a legal upgrade key.

    A start-to-finish, step-by-step guide to properly installing Windows 7

One of my favorite guides by TweakHound

    As Jerry says, do not activate right away;
1 - Wipe drive/partition (see above for partitioning recommendations)
2 - Install Seven. If using an upgrade disk, DO NOT ENTER YOUR KEY
3 - If using an upgrade disk. On first boot, install your drivers then run Windows Update until there are no more updates.
4 - In the start menu search box type activate , enter your key and then activate Windows.
