    BucksBee redirects my searches

I downloaded software which gave me the option of installing BucksBee's toolbar. I declined the offer, yet, when I run a search which had been set up for Google, I get redirected to BucksBee's search "powered by Yahoo". I erased all my cookies, no help. I removed my Firefox browser, where this hijacking occurs, then downloaded and reinstalled it. No help. Note that I do not have BucksBee toolbar installed. When I examine my add-ons, I find no indications of it. When I get this redirected search, my window says i'n on "serp.freecause.com.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Look in the Search providers on your Browser. I had something similar happen with another app. It had installed a different search provider and set it up as the default search provider. All I had to do was delete that search provider and set my chosen provider as default.

See if this help section for FF will assist.

What Ted suggested is good advice, but you also need to uninstall the BucksBee loyalty plugin as well.

    1. Hit CTRL+SHIFT+A to open the Firefox Add-ons menu.
    2. Click the "Extensions" link and look for Bucksbee loyalty plugin.
    3. Click the "Remove" button.
    4. If you can't see in the Extensions menu, check the "Plugins" menu instead.

Looking at a report from ThreatExpert.com, I notice that the BucksBee Loyalty Plugin also installs to C:\Program Files, so you should be able to uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

You also need to remove these in Add/Remove Programs, and possibly in Firefox Extensions.

    • SecurityXploded (this may or not be preceded by the name "Bucksbee")
    • Monetizer (possibly called "InstallMonetizer")

I didn't like the look of this registry entry on the ThreatExpert report though: %ProgramFiles%\SecurityXploded\OutlookPasswordDecr yptor
To my way of thinking, that might imply a password cracking tool.

Also, looking at the number of registry keys created, I suspect that we won't get away lightly getting rid of this piece of crapware.

Which program were you installing when you saw the opportunity to opt-out of the Bucksbee crapware installation if you don't mind me asking?
