    Lightbulb

    OK, Jerry, try this:

    > cmd & Run as Admin

    netsh winsock reset
    Hit Enter

    Next:
    Hit Enter after each 1

    regsvr32 wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
    regsvr32 wucltui.dll
    regsvr32 wups.dll
    regsvr32 wuweb.dll

Reboot & try the Updates, again...

If, problem, still, remains call 1-866-727-2338. There is no charge to deal w/ Windows Updates issues.

I happen to know/have the MS numbers for things due to being an IT Pro & a Microsoft Partner

    Cheers,
    Drew

I am having the exact same problem as Jerry, above, after re-installing the OS on my Vista machine from the disks I made when I first purchased this computer. Would you please let me know the detailed instructions for making sure BITS & Windows Update are @ the correct settings to run? I am not afraid to try things but am probably over my head here. I was able to access Services and can see that Windows Update is started. Is that what you are referring to?

    Thanks, Ann A.

    Hi Ann,

Sometimes, even, remotely wish could be hands-on or @ least speak to people; anyway...

In Services BITs & Win Updates should both be set to Run & Automatic. Rt Clk Computer > Manage & in that window hit Services... Rt Clk on a particular item to see the settings options.

As for Command Prompt (cmd) there are a couple ways:
    1. > Run & type in cmd, then Rt Clk on it & > Run as Admin
    2. > All Programs > Accessories. You'll see cmd (it's black); again, Rt Clk & select Run as Admin.

I trust I've explained this clearly & fully enough... lemme know

But, I repeat, since it involves Updates call & let MS deal w/ it for you. Especially, if, the Services are set properly. When it's Updates, it's N/C (free).

Here, again, is what I'd given Jerry:

    > cmd & Run as Admin

    netsh winsock reset
    Hit Enter

    Next:
    Hit Enter after each 1

    regsvr32 wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
    regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
    regsvr32 wucltui.dll
    regsvr32 wups.dll
    regsvr32 wuweb.dll

Reboot & try the Updates, again...

If, problem, still, remains call 1-866-727-2338. There is no charge to deal w/ Windows Updates issues.

    Cheers,
    Drew

Thank you for trying to help me. My problem is solved after an afternoon on the phone with Microsoft. It really was more than I could deal with.

    John******,

Ok, so you have written a 3 volume novel, a trilogy & sure that's cool BUT, what the heck does it have to do w/ the thread????

Can you say, "Off-topic", boys & girls?

    Cheers,
    Drew
