Word Conversion (Word 97 on Windows 2000)

A user in our Washington office is having a problem none of us in the support group here in NYC has ever seen. He is running Word 97 (SR-2) on Windows 2000. Whenever he opens a document, he gets the prompt stating that the document is Word 6.0. We sent him a Word97 document to check it, and he gets the same result. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

    Thanks for your time

    Hello Michael

We do a lot of work in mixed Office97/Office2k/ Windows NT 4/ Windows 2k environment, but I never had this kind of problem. I suspect the users copy of word or at least his import filters are faulty. Probably the fastest way to solve the problem is to reinstall Word.

Thanks very much for your help. As it happened, we replaced the user's normal.dot and that seems to have fixed the problem. We were confused because the help technician in the local office thought he'd already tried that. Evidently he was wrong.

    Thanks again!
