External monitor hooked to a laptop

Can I hook a [second] monitor to a laptop -- assuming I have the connection -- giving me then both the laptop screen and an external monitor at once -- dual monitors?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

So if I'm understanding that clip Clint, after connecting, it's F3 [He said Fn F3] to switch between the two?

That may, or may not apply to your laptop. Check your laptop's documentation for more precise information.
    It should be doable though.
