    Winamp and album art

I have a number of .mp3 files which include album art. I am trying to remove the album art.

I open the files with Winamp, then go to File\View File Information\Album Art and select Remove. The album art disappears from the Winamp album art pane but the .mp3 file still shows the album art.I managed to overcome this problem for some of the files by taking ownership of them, but not for all the files.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

In the same "View file info" menu, try clicking "Autotag", but don't download the album art.

Xircal, thanks but I had already autotagged all the files in question, and it made no difference.

    Any other ideas?

It works for me. I don't usually add artwork, but I tried it with a couple of mp3's and then deleted the artwork from the View Info/Artwork menu. The images subsequently disappeared from the folder I've saved the mp3's to as well.

Try right clicking the mp3 and choose "Refresh thumbnail" after you delete the artwork.

When I right click the mp3 I do not get a "Refresh thumbnail" option. Any other ideas?

I'm using Win XP Pro, but perhaps the option to refresh isn't included with your own OS.

But the artwork will be in .jpg format and in order to be added to an mp3 will have be on your system somewhere. So try doing a search for the title with .jpg attached to it and then delete the image.

Hi Xircal, I tried searching with the Search Everything program, but found nothing.

I am completely out of ideas.

    Try doing this.

    1. Click "Start", go to "Programs" and then right click "Winamp" and go to "Properties".
    2. Click the "Customize" tab and then click "Restore Defaults".

Check also to make sure that Windows can see file extensions if you can't find any .jpg files. This is how to do that.

    1. Open Windows Explorer and then click "Tools" and go to "Folder Options".
    2. Click the "View" tab and then in the list, click the radio button next to "Show Hidden Files and Folder".
    3. Further down the list, remove the checkmark from "Hide file extensions for known file types".
    4. Click Apply/OK to exit.

Do a search for *.jpg to test it.

When I open Winamp Properties there is no Customize option.

I had already removed the checkmark you refer to and have searched for .jpg files. I have thousands of them and I scrolled through all the search results but found nothing relevant to the .mp3 files concerned.

Maybe use a third party tool: http://mp3diags.sourceforge.net/

It sounds like the album art is embedded in the .mp3 file. Personally I prefer this because it shows up on all devices without any intervention from me. I haven't used WinAmp for years, but I can tell you that when I look at the .mp3 properties in Media Monkey, there is an Album Art tab where I can delete the embedded .jpg.

Xircal, thanks. I installed mp3diags, but could find no option to delete the album art.

Chuck, thanks a lot. Media Monkey did the trick.Having said that,is it possible to make Media Monkey play in a mode other than full screen or minimised, in the same way that Winamp can?

You're welcome Roy. It seems I could run it in some minimal form at one time, but I can't find an option like that in the current version.

    Hi Roy,

if you click the 'Options' tab select Skins > Winamp Modern you will get something like this.

    RR.jpg

Clicking the ML button in above image displays this.

    RR1.jpg

Please note, I have it set how I like it by making a few minor setting changes.

Thanks, but he was asking if you could do the same with Media Monkey. This is one feature from WinAmp I wish Media Monkey had.
