For those wishing to replace the Start Orb of Win XP and Win 7 Classic Shell does indeed work. I have read of some changes to some of the Start Orb replacements.

How different is windows explorer in the Windows 8 DP as compared to Windows 7 Ted?
The biggest difference is the inclusion of a Ribbon interface:

The search seemed quite useful. I ran a few searches to check things out.
I'm really just getting started as I had to work all day. The Ribbon can be minimized or expanded using the small carrot in the upper right hand corner. I will be posting more as I delve into Win 8 RP a little more.

Many people will be waiting, nay gasping, for the third-party Windows Explorer replacements (e.g. xplorer2) to be updated for Windows 8...
Later...
And the update is there already: xplorer2 professional 2.1.0.2, works fine in Windows 8 RP!

I have just never had any problems with Windows Explorer. Perhaps I just use it as a basic tool. I have never felt the need to try a replacement. Don't believe I ever will.

Yeah, same here. As long as it has the same basic functionality as Windows 7 I'll be content.
I have found no major differences. If you have used Office 2007 or 2010 then you are already familiar with the ribbon (I believe you do) so there is not much learning curve here.

For those who pour scorn on my suggestion of a Windows Explorer replacement, may I point out that I rather liked File Manager from Windows NT 3.51 onwards?!

They call these things Personal Computers because we all choose what we want to include and use on them. If you have found an app that works better for you than WE then so be it. I guess I do not use WE as much as others and have never found a reason to switch. It seems to do everything I ask of it. There are some that need more functions than I do. Just look at partitioning and Imaging. I choose apps that have more features and give me more than the comparable basic apps provided with Win 7 and Win 8 RP.

When I started my Windows 8 computer this morning, the Classic Shell Start Menu button was not on the Task Bar. Apparrently an update to Windows 8 RP cleared out the Startup directory. Not user friendly.
That has never happened to me. I have installed ALL updates when they have arrived and Classic Shell continues to work appropriately. I would try to uninstall/reinstall and see what happens.
