Relative Path and Filename for Linked Objects in Word

Hi there,

I am trying to create an DOC that will pull in data from an XLS document. These 2 documents will be templates that I can use to copy and reuse. The problem is, when I rename the file, it is no longer connected.

Would I be able to have the 2 original documents on my desktop (same filenames, just different extension). I could then copy these to a new folder in a different location and it would know to look for the file in the same path and the file with the same name as the one currently open? For example, 12345.doc would look for 12345.xls in the same dir.
