W.S. Lounge will be down Thursday 14th 3-4 Pm EST 30 to 60 minutes ..
The WindowsSecrets server isn't currently part of the regular iNET server cluster - after the downtime, it will be part of the hosting cluster.

That's 20:00 to 21:00 GMT, for the rest of the world!

Unless I'm mistaken, it would in fact be 19:00-20:00 GMT, since GMT is EDT+4.

My understanding is GMT does not change with the seasons, whereas BST (British Summer Time) is GMT+1, and I think BATcher has given us the BST equivalent.

But, I could be wrong as this part of the rest of the world doesn't use GMT; nor do many others since the use of GMT was superseded in 1928 by UTC (universal time).

I relied on this webpage! Fred said EST not EDT, and I believed him. Whereas the UK rejoices in British Summer Time at the moment, I considered that GMT was more inclusive...

You're right, Fred did say EST. I didn't notice that; aside from Saskatchewan and a couple other oddball locales that refuse to switch everyone else is on summer time by now.

How different is UT from GMT? Well, it can be off by seconds!

The biggest difference between the two is UT is based on atomic clock timekeeping and uses leap seconds to maintain alignment with times based on astronomy. To quote Wikipedia:

The term Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) does not have a precise definition at the sub-second level, but it is often considered equivalent to UTC or UT1. Saying "GMT" often implies either UTC or UT1 when used within informal or casual contexts. In technical contexts, usage of "GMT" is avoided; the unambiguous terminology "UTC" or "UT1" is preferred.

So as you can see this is really hairsplitting stuff. But I have so few left I find splitting them makes them look bushier

On the other hand, using GMT (or UT) for announcements going to multiple time zones makes a lot of sense, since presumably everyone knows how to convert to their local time.

I really like the time discussion. haha It may be hairsplitting or pedantic, but a lot of what forums are about is digging into the details of things. It is good to clarify and be accurate.

Anyway, today's the day and we should see some downtime at some point through the next few hours.

So things didn't go off without a hitch yesterday. You may have noticed there was no down time as we encountered some technical issues, and have rescheduled for Monday morning, around 9AM Eastern. Just keeping ya'll updated.
