Want slideshows in PowerPoint

Before I installed Windows Live Essentials, PowerPoint opened all slideshows. Now Windows Live Photo Gallery opens them. I would like to continue using Power Point but I have no idea of how to change PP back to the default.

Also, which would be the better choice between PowerPoint; WWL Photo Gallery and Windows Photo Gallery? Do I have these programs mixed up?

Will some kind soul please tell me how to straighten out my thinking on these three programs?

I sure would appreciate some help.

Gloria,

You need to reassociate the filetypes for your version of PP to point back to PP and not WLE.

Click: The Orb
Type: File Associations into the search box.
Click: Change the file type associates with a file extension in the search list.
Scoll: Down to the Power Point file extensions.
Click: On the one you want to change, e.g. .ppt {PP 2003} .pptx {PP 2007/10}
FileType Associations.JPG
Click: The Change Program button.
Select: PowerPoint or use the Browse button to find the PowerPoint.exe file.
Repeat for all PP extensions, i.e. .pps, .ppsx, etc.

Thank you so much, Retired Geek. All file types for Power Point are now correct. I've only been using a computer for 10 or more years and never knew how to do this.

I have added your instructions to my files and will use it if I ever have to do this again.

Don't worry too much about not knowing this you're just like the rest of us. You haven't needed this information before so you had no reason to know it. I and I'm sure the rest of us here learn what we need when we need it! Few of us have the time or inclination to just learn everything there is to know about our computers and I doubt that any one of us could do it even if we wanted to. I always like to tell students that even Bill Gates doesn't know everything about computers there's just too much for one person to know that's why we have books and of course the Lounge!

I read a lot of books and always with a highlighter and pack of post-its because I know I'll forget the specifics and will need to refer back to the book when I need the information. I read mostly so I have a good idea what can be done so I know to look it up when I need it.

Thank you for your kind words. Now I don't feel quite so stupid. I bought a book called Windows 7 by Microsoft, I think it's about time I read it.
