    Hard Disk Sentinel Email Reports

I have HDS set to email me a report everyday.

It sends me the report everyday but I am curious how it emails me the report without using my email program.

I suspect it sends the report through the program to HDS server and then they forward it to me...

Am I correct in this assumption?

Yes Fred...I have it configured to send me an email report everyday..

When I said 'HDS' I meant that it was sending the report to HDS and they were sending it back to me.
That's the only reason I can think of why my email program doesn't open and I don't have a copy of the message in my sent folder.

Since the configuration asks for the SMTP server, this would suggest it uses your SMTP server to send the email.

It is not very complex to write comms code to send mail via a SMTP server (the S stands for "simplified" after all). Off the shelf email send programs like blat and sendmail are very small (blat is under 100K).

Standalone sending via your SMTP server would not require opening your email client nor would it log the message.

You could try blocking the outbound port your SMTP uses (likely 25, 2525, or 587). If that stops the email then that's it. If it is calling home to send the email that would likely be via port 80.

Of course blocking your SMTP port will also prevent your email client from sending, so do it temporarily.

Jock, I don't have to block it.
I have the option in the program to NOT send reports.

    Hi Banyarola

Yes, I know you don't have to send them. I was suggesting you block SMTP outbound to ascertain if the program was indeed sending via your SMTP server or using another method. If you have emails enabled in the program and don't get them with the ports blocked then you know it was sending via your SMTP server. On the other hand, if you still get them then routing via their server is possibly the method in use.
