Registration Wizard Hacked

Well, what took so long? It seems that the hackers have released a program on the WEB to break the Registration/Activation Wizard in Windows XP. See the story HERE.

As I have said here numerous times, the only thing this abomination does is make life difficult for the legitimate users! QED.

Re: Registration Wizard Hacked

where yhave you been? it was broken 2 weeks ago. We knew it would be - but activation wasn't aimed at stopping pirates. It was aimed at casual copiers - like my sister.

I had an unused copy of office 2000 (RTM version, no activation) She got a new computer recently and needed powerpoint. I said it was in office, did she install offfice on the new computer? (old one got fried by lightening a few weeks back) No she didn't - she gave the cds to our brother to install on his new computer last year.

Activation is intended to stop this kind of sharing - they won't go looking for cracks, but they will learn that software is not intended for this kind of use. I can guarentee you she won't do it with office xp - and not just because i plan to lecture both at thanksgiving.

Well, it looks like there is soon going to be a good alternative to the Registration/Activation Wizard:

Re: Registration Wizard Hacked

I'll believe that particular piece of market hype when I see it up and running - on somebody else's sytem.
What this company is saying, 'we'll give you a better operating system than Windows for under $100'. I don't believe in the tooth-fairy, either.
Some people seem to take delight in bandying this sort of thing around the net. It seems rather odd to me that Lindlows Linux can claim to succeed where other Linux is clearly struggling to gain acceptance. As usual, time will tell - but I won't be holding my breath...
