Windows 7 Ultimate Shut down Error.

When I shut down my computer for the evening I get a dialog box with an error you know the one like a credit card number 20 digits or more Well I would love to post the error but the problem is it doesn't stay long enough on the screen to read it and write it down. I have hit the pause key bu that doesn't do any good it just shuts down. I would probably need to shut down for the next month to get a digit at a time to get the entire error code. so far I have been able to catch ox1 ----------that would be zeros not sure how many, but I was able to get these numbers after several shut down. the numbers I was able to see which I am sure don't help much. But maybe someone can direct me to some place that would provide the error message. I am not a computer guru, but I try. So this is what I have to date which is not much. 0x1 unknown number of zeros and not sure what may be after 2984. It also looks like there is another set of number and I am not sure it it just a repeat or a different number. My computer seem to be running OK but it's one of those thing that bug us old people. I tried a screen capture but that didn't work either. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Then when I resolve this issue if possible I have a windows XP Pro update issue also on the wife's computer. She won't let me up-grade to 7 as she is afraid

her games she plays since back in win 98 won't work. I have to live with her so I don't mess with it for now. Thanks in advance. The game she use is called Hoyle Card Games. I think it came out in the 1800

Try looking for it in the event viewer under "administrative" views for the date and time of occurrence.

Hi Lyle, use the PrtSc (Print Screen) key, then use Paint to get the image.

Gold it happens durning shut down so when I boot back up the information will not be avaiable. I did get a little more information just haven't been able to get the 2 sets of error numbers. I did get the following. "memory could not be read"

If this happens during shutdown, I do not think a screen capture will work because it is deleted once the PC does shut down.

Found one critical error and one warning.
(1) The print spooler failed to share printer Dell Laser Printer 1100 with shared resource name Dell Laser Printer. Error 2114. The printer cannot be used by others on the network

(2) Realtec PCIe GBE Family Controller is disconnected from the network.

Hi Lyle, have a look in 'Reliability Monitor' by typing it in the start menu search box.

Reliability Monitor all that did was confuse me more. I have no idea what I am looking for. The wife and I have been trying to watch the shut down error together thinking between the both of us we could get the complete error message. Well we got part of it and the when I rebooted and shut down there wasn't any errors. Then the next day when I shut the computer down we tried again only to find out the long numbers like *0x80002984 only to see that they change every time we re-booted. It doesn't error on a re-boot. So it must be some issue with a program I am guessing. The only thing that didn't change I think was "Memory could not be read" I am frustrated it looks like I am going to need to formt the HD and do a fresh install of my first full image. I use Acronis and I hate to go back that far because of all the updates and trying to figure out what new programs have been installed. Anyway thanks for all the help.

Try disabling Automatic Restart.
Hold down the Windows key and tap Pause Break
Click on Advanced System Settings
Under Startup and Recovery,click on Settings
Under System Failure, uncheck Automatic restart
Click OK

This should leave the error on the screen when it occurs.

I followed the above instruction and it didn't stop the shut down to give me the time to capture or read the error. Thanks anyway

It will scan your PC for blue screen dump files and display them.

I am not receiving a blue screen. Just an error message at shut down.
