Print E-Mail on arrival (Outllook 97)

Is there a way to have Outlook send arriving e-mails directly to a printer?

You should be able to easily set up a rule to print each message on arrival.

Open your Rules Wizard (on your Tools menu) and create a new rule which checks email as it arrives. Have Outlook apply the rule to all messages (or limit it according to the choices presented). On the next screen, select "Print it" to have all messages print when received.

This works on Outlook 2002 and I am reasonably sure that you should be able to create the same rule within 97.

    Hope this helps.

Actually, I believe that the "Print it" rule won't work on any version of Outlook prior to 2000 (that's what Outlook told me when I created that rule).

Is there any way to make Outlook print all messages after they are sent? I didn't see a "Print it" option in my 2000, but maybe it's a new feature for 2002?

    Thanks,
    Becky

Sorry about that Becky. I have been working with 2002 for so long now that I had completely forgotten what rules were available in previous versions. Although it looks like Elcid has found a solution to his problem anyway.

    Cheers

Glad you found a solution Elcid. Unfortunately it is not a <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> solution, but at least Microsoft have finally put that functionality into Outlook 2002.

For $30.00 it's worth it. Not only does it print out the e-mail but it also prints out the attachments. My understanding is that Outlook 2000 will not print out the attachment. Is this correct?

Correct as far as I can see - just tried it with a .pdf attached and only got the usual attachment icon in the body of the mail.

Using the rule wizard without doing any special "behind the scenes" tweaking, Outlook 2000 only prints the e-mail (no attachments).

I have a question regarding the special utility that you bought. Does it have the ability to print sent emails as well as received? I have an attorney that might be willing to pay $30 for that feature.

    Thank you,
    Becky

one thing to double check on the custom actions - some (i thought all) are broken in Outlook2002. ExLife still works, but i can't remember if it does the print feature. (I haven't reinstalled it yet after my last format)

also - the signature programs there (one in exlife and exsign) don't work with wordmail and actually result in blank mail being sent.

be sure to look at exlife too - or instead of the custom actions. it's about the same cost and offers much nicer rules options.

I haven't tried to print sent messages. I recomend that you download the 30 day trial at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ornic.com>http://www.ornic.com</A>

Caprint is only one out of about ten programs that they have that works within Outllook rule feature.

I have found the solution. Outlook 97 can not do the job itself but if you use caprint it will work great!!

Re: Print E-Mail on arrival (Outllook 97)

    Hi Elcid,

As Leif and Becky have said, Outlook 2000 will not print email attachments automatically <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>. On the print dialogue box there is an option to print attachments when you print the email, but I don't believe that this is turned on by default. So without doing a little bit of coding somewhere along the line, you are probably better off with caprint to take care of your needs.

    Cheers,

    Barry & others

I have found that Outlook 2000 SR-1 prints attachments when you click the print button or click right mouse and then print. Why would my experience be different to everyone else's?
