Thumbs down Facebook switching users e-mail addresses without permission

Facebook is switching users email addresses to @facebook.com without seeking permission first. Why am I not surprised?

I have deactivated my account as well. I only went to Facebook once or twice a week, for a couple of minutes. I am just tired of all the junk everyone seems to post continuously. Very little actual useful info.

I deactivated my Facebook account three years ago and finally deleted it altogether a month ago.

However, I notice that a Firefox add-on I have installed still blocks info about what sites I'm visting from being relayed to Facebook. I don't quite understand that.

The add-on incidentally is called Facebook Disconnect and you can get it from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...n/fbdc/?src=ss

Actually this is a good thing for once. It prevents spammers from filling up your real mail box. Of course if you LIKE getting spam, by all means, change it back. I only use FB for a home based business. And I don't even share my email anyway because I have an app that links out product to a "real" web site where one can contact me if they so choose.

That's a contradiction in terms I think. To my way of thinking (which is a bit warped at times I must admit), if there are no filters on the facebook email, users are going to have to trawl through digital reams of data to separate important mails from the junk.

I understand your point of view that your real email addy doesn't get spammed anymore, but most email clients and webmail have filters built in anyway to prevent that happening.

I think Facebook has gone this route to tie users to its service and to display ads in both browsers and smart phones. In the latter case, Facebook wants to find a way of targeting users more effectively. So I suppose users will be seeing a full screen ad on their smart phones before their email displays, or something along those lines.
