Lightbulb AVAST antivirus version 7.0.1451 released

AVAST has released version program version 7.0.1451 which can be updated in the following ways.

    1. Start AVAST by double clicking the desktop shortcut.
    2. Click the Maintenance link in the menu on the left and then click the Update link.
    3. Click Update Program button in the right hand pane.

The program update can also be downloaded as an installer via the AVAST forums: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100247.0

It shouldn't be necessary to uninstall the existing version first.

In the unlikely event that the installation fails, do the following.

    1. Download the AVAST uninstaller called aswclear.exe to your desktop from here: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
    2. Download the installer from here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=100247.0
    3. Reboot the computer in Safe Mode.
    4. Find the uninstaller called aswclear.exe which you downloaded to your desktop and run it.
    5. Choose to uninstall all previous versions (you have to do this one at a time).
    6. Restart the PC and run the installer.
    7. If you don't want Google Chrome, make sure you remove the checkmarks from both boxes which I've ringed in red in the following screenshot.

Thanks for the info. For those using Avast, having the latest version that works with your OS, of any security app, is always a good idea. I wonder if this release has necessary changes to run with Win 8 RP. Some people were having problems with Avast on Win 8 RP.

On my XP laptop yesterday I had to go the aswclear route after the auto-update prompt, no big deal - but I probably know more about these things than the average user. Thanks for including the extra info Xircal.
