Thunderbird erratically not connecting to server

Twice recently I have periods of 12 hours or more where Thunderbird has been failing to connect to the server. I'm with BTinternet.com and have been able to access my mail through the the Yahoo website. Where does the problem lie and who should I make my mutterings to?

That's a good question. Have you tried running a tracert to the email server when the situation occurs?

Does Thunderbird start to work without you doing anything else? If you restart the computer, does Thunderbird still fail?

1 -how do I run the tracer ?

2 - yes the problem disappears after a while without intervention - it was the fact that it has repeated several times and for 12 to 24 hours drop-out that encouraged me to post.

3 - I have specifically done a re-boot, but I think this will have occurred with a nortmal switch off and back on again several hours later.

    Many thanks Ruirib for answering.

To run a tracert, you need to open a command prompt and type tracert mailserveraddress. You can obtain the mail server address by looking at your email account configuration in Thunderbird.
