Dave, your image is the same as mine BUT I use Avast. If you don't use Avast yours should look exactly like this:-
Don't change anything under 'Delivery' on yours

My Service Provider says the values of 25 and 110 must not be changed. Is this so? Would changing them mess up my
whole profile? Sorry, a bit ignorant in these matters.
    Regards
    Dave

    Dave,
is the highlighted box on your 'Server' tab ticked ? If not, tick it.

Don't change the Advanced tab settings yet.

I have now ticked the box but still the same. My service provider have also created a new default account, and they are of the view this is
definitely a WLM problem. They also advise me not to change the settings on the advanced tab.
I am not sure where to request help from Windows for this.
    Regards
    Dave

    Dave,
their is one option, if you don't have too many contacts, you could open a Gmail account. If your interested I will give info on setting up.

Selecting "Repair" at Control Panel, Programs and Features, Windows Live Essentials 2011, Uninstall/Change has worked for many (but not all) people with this issue:

Windows Live Email: "A problem occurred while trying to open this message."

    Thanks Bruce.
I ran the repair for the Windows Live Essentials 2011 but problem remains.
If I open WLM and wait awhile before opening a message, when I do open a message then it opens.
Maybe for now I will use Thunderbird as my default mail.
Many thanks for for the help.
    Regards
    Dave
