Searching contacts by email address with a partial string in a new email

I am using contacts with CRM 2011 and when we go to create a new email in outlook 2007 no results will come even with 'more columns' selected. If we search by the whole email address it will come back with a result for the person. Is there any way to search by part of an email address in the search field within the 'To:' section to get a list of emails (ex: or do you have to search with the whole string to get a result? It just doesnt seem it can parse the string to get results that way.

One solution would be to update to Outlook 2010, anyway that version's search works as you ask for me.
