    Microsoft Security Essentials Stopping

Every so often I get a window with a message that MSE is stopped & I should start it again. I have run virus scans and have found nothing. What could cause this?

    System is an Intel I7 with 15GB RAM, 1TB C Drive & a 1TB D drive running Win 7 Home Premium.

I've encountered this on occasion too, very infrequently though. A restart, in my case, resolved it.

Since I restart my PC each day, I do not see this problem. The OP does not mention if he does anything similar to this. There are certain maintenance items Windows does during reboot. I suppose these chores could be part of the problem.

My laptop (AMD Turion 8GB RAM 285GB C drive Win 7 Home Premium) does not experience this at all. Both systems are 64 Bit.

I suspect you restart the laptop and perhaps do not do so on the desktop very often. You might correct this problem on your desktop if you restart the PC regularly.

Neither one is restarted regulary. The laptop is used as a desktop replacement. One thing I have learned is restarting may treat the problem, but it is just a band-aid. The root cause is still there.

When that happened to me on a few occasions I found that it needed updating or it wanted to scan..

I never got the message it stopped but I got that caution indicator in the tray..
