Smile fix Windows XP cookies problem?

I have cookies enabled on both IE 7 and Firefox but the browsers state that they are not. The problem started immediately after deleting the history and cookies.... I have reset both browsers and tried everything I can find online..... It seems to be a Windows problem not a browser issue. Any ideas? thanks in advance

Off the top of my head it sounds like a problem accessing the temporary internet files folder, either a rights issue or a corrupt user. On most systems this is: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files.

Try setting up another user and see if that one has cookie problems also.

Is this the first time you have deleted the history and cookies?
--- Since you have 2 browsers did you delete the history & cookies in each browser?

    Try a System Restore

    Do you use CCleaner?
--- You can use it to save the cookies you want to save
--- Options --- Cookies --- Move the cookies you want to save from the left panel over to the right panel

I don't use Firefox, but for IE go to Internat Options & try
Privacy tab; Advanced option;--- Override automatic cookie handling--- First party cookies: Accept--- Third party cookies: Block--- Always allow session cookies
