I am a little leery of things coming from The Register. I have been chastised in the past about believing anything from this source.

Here is an article from ZDnet that says that the new name is "Windows 8", that is, anywhere they previously had "Metro" just remove and replace it with "Windows 8".

Microsoft: Don't call it Metro. Call it 'Windows

Mary Jo Foley really started saying it could be "Windows 8 UI", but a PS admits Modern UI as a possibility too.

A lot of their stuff is a bit of tongue and cheek. (or cheeky as the Brits call it). And they do rankle some readers when their loyalties are on the other side. But I do enjoy reading their articles. For the record, Mary Jo Foley also posted a reference to the new name. See the update at the bottom of this article:

I wonder if MS will announce the new name before the official release. Personally I prefer Win 8 UI over Modern UI.
