    Question Got Troubles?

    In XP Home Sp 3
Recently I have noticed pauses when I am either burning to a DVD or copying a file to my external hard drive. As far as I can tell, the result does not have any problems.

Can anyone advise me as to what I need to check to make sure this is not a sign of impending disaster?

Clean all the junk files out of your PC. Then minimize the programs running in the background. Open "MSCONFIG" and look in the Startup folder.
There should be nothing in there, checked, if you don't absolutely HAVE to have it running from Boot-Up.

Close all running programs, before you start to burn a CD/DVD. Your burning program would just love to have exclusive use of your CPU and RAM.

That's just the tip of the iceburg, but start there anyway.

OH..... and for XP you should have at least 2 gig's of ram. Keep your HD clean and defragmented, at least weekly.

    Cheers Mate!

1 gig of Ram should be sufficient for most XP systems unless you run some big memory hungry programs like Photoshop.
