Warning about Windows Update for keyboard/mouse

A routine Windows update installed a new keyboard & mouse update, apparently a prelude to Windows 8. Whatever, I thought, and went ahead. NOT GOOD! My mouse didn't work correctly after and the new control window showed only the keyboard, not the mouse. After an hour of scratching my head trying to get it to work, and another 30 mins searching the Internet, I found buried in Microsoft's website the helpful information that some devices would not work. The list included my mouse, a Microsoft wireless laser mouse! Their solution? Uninstall the new drivers and reinstall the old drivers. That took another 30 mins.

Lesson: don't automatically install the new keyboard/mouse update.

There are several kind of devices that the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies. Keyboard and mouse, graphics drivers, probably others. New drivers do not always mean better operation as you have found first hand.

I installed the keyboard update and it works fine.
I have a Logitech mouse so no problem there..

You're right Ted, I should have left it out but I don't have a problem so far..
