    Rolling Counter using CountIf (Excel 2000)

    Dear all

    I have a list of hospital attendances, and for each new attendance I'd like to produce a rolling counter of the number of attendances in the prior 1 hr, 2 hrs etc.

    I have been trying with COUNTIF, without success; this includes not being able to copy down the formula with the formula automatically adjusting for the row number, which is contained in " ", so doesn't seem to want to adjust automatically. With a similar principle I'd also like to produce a the peak number of attendances per hour for any given hour.

    Not sure what you are after exactly, but the adjusting for row number is because you are not making comparisons between cell references but with the literal text string "B9" and "D9". I think you are after something more like:
